Kerala has always been famous for its agricultural produce. As a global hub of the spice trade, it has seen traders from around the world flocking to its shores. Even today, despite its relatively small geographical area, Kerala ‘s fertile soil nurtures a wide variety of crops that are much in demand within and outside India. While Kerala has been blessed with this natural bounty, it needed a wellorganized marketing system to create a sustainable and profit-making agricultural ecosystem. This was especially so since a large part of the agricultural sector consists of small and marginal farmers, who have a limited market reach. Recognising this, the Government of Kerala set up the Kerala Agro Business Company (KABCO) Limited. KABCO is a company set up in a Public-Private Partnership model in pursuance to the budget speech in the Kerala State Assembly in 2016-2017. Our broad aim is to establish a well-organized marketing system for Kerala’s agricultural produce and its value-added products globally. Incorporated in October 2023 and headquartered in Thiruvananthapuram, we are a special purpose vehicle of the Kerala Agro Industries Corporation, set up under a Private-Public Partnership model. Our operations include agri project centres, agri market facilitation centres and processing units in 17 major markets. We also run cold storage centres in Idukki, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Thrissur and Ernakulam districts.
